ABOUT
I am Denis Grigolo, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with over 40 years of professional experience supporting individuals through complex life and work-related challenges. I provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space for Queensland Police officers seeking counselling through the Self Refer program.

About Me.
I understand that policing places unique psychological and emotional demands on its members. Exposure to critical incidents, cumulative trauma, high responsibility, shift work, and organisational pressures can take a toll over time — often long before it becomes obvious to others. Many officers also find it difficult to ask for help. My approach is respectful, practical, and grounded in an understanding of first-responder culture.
Adult men and women, including first responders, tend to relate particularly well to me. I am experienced, easy to talk to, and work at a pace that feels right for you. Sessions are focused on helping you regain clarity, resilience, and a sense of control — without judgement or unnecessary clinical language.
Areas I Commonly Assist With
• Work-related stress and burnout
• PTSD and trauma related to operational policing and critical incidents
• Anxiety, low mood, and depression
• Emotional regulation and anger management
• Adjustment difficulties (career, identity, retirement, injury, or organisational change)
• Relationship and family strain
• Grief and loss
• Substance use concerns
Therapeutic Approaches
I use evidence-based, trauma-informed therapies, tailored to your needs and goals, including:
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
• Trauma-Informed Therapy
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Strengths-based approaches
My style is calm, genuine, and respectful. I listen carefully and focus on what will be most helpful for you — whether that is processing difficult experiences, building coping strategies, or finding a way forward that aligns with your values and professional role.
Seeking support is not a weakness. It is often a practical and proactive step toward staying well, effective, and connected — both on and off the job. I value the importance of responding to enquires in a timely way and check my phone messages and emails at 4pm every work day. I will generally return enquiries that same day.
